Lagos Assembly passes charge making Yoruba dialect mandatory in schools

The Lagos State House of Assembly has passed a bill making the instructing of Yoruba dialect necessary in schools in the state.

The bill was passed into law on Thursday after it effectively scaled through the third perusing on the floor of the House.

The bill makes the educating of Yoruba dialect mandatory both in private and government funded schools in the state. It additionally makes it a center subject at all levels.

On Thursday, the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, requested the Clerk of the House, Azeez Sanni, to send a spotless draft duplicate of the bill to the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode for consent.

In the interim, the bill additionally commands state-claimed tertiary establishments in the state to fuse the utilization of the dialect as a course unit into their General Nigeria Studies, GNS.

The bill shows a fine of N500,000 for a corporate guilty party while any school in the state which neglects to consent to the law faces conclusion and a fine of N250,000.
