Privateers grab six from German-possessed ship in Port Harcourt


Six team individuals from a German-claimed compartment dispatch, including the commander, have been seized in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, sea security examiners said.

The Sea Guardian consultancy said the Demeter "was assaulted by privateers" at around 7:00 am (0600 GMT) on Saturday.

"Privateers boarded the ship, hijacked six group, including (the) ace, boss officer, second officer, second specialist, bosun and cook," it said on its site www.sguardian.com Monday.

Reports recommended the assault was done by eight privateers in a dark speedboat, it included.

The Demeter had been going from the capital of Equatorial Guinea, Malabo, to the Liberian capital Monrovia at the time.

The Liberia-hailed vessel is possessed by German dispatching firm the Peter Doehle Group.

The MTI Network, an emergency correspondences firm that arrangements with occurrences in the transportation business said the assault occurred as the ship entered the port of Onne.

"The majority of the 12 remaining seafarers of the Demeter are sheltered and unhurt and the vessel has continued to safe waters," it said in an announcement.

The Peter Doehle amass said it would not uncover the nationalities of the group individuals taken "for security reasons".

The International Maritime Bureau has recorded 121 theft occurrences in universal waters this year, including shootings, endeavored kidnappings and hijackings of boats.
